Wednesday, President Paul Kagame addressed the Transform Africa Summit, which
is currently being held in Zimbabwe. He emphasized the importance of digitizing
African economies and urged the continent to address challenges related to
internet use and the smart Africa concept.
During his speech, President Kagame highlighted several key challenges facing Africa in terms of internet usage, including digital identity and cyber security, affordable broadband and smart devices, and digital skills and literacy, as well as continental integration. He expressed confidence that these challenges can be overcome through improved cooperation among African countries.
President Kagame also called for the portability of digital identities across borders and the use of technology to reduce trade barriers. He praised the African Commission and other continental institutions for their efforts in these areas, but urged them to move faster with a sense of urgency.
