Who is who in the New Senate Bureau

Those who have been elected and appointed to serve in the Senate have extensive experience in a wide array of disciplines and years working as public servants.

Here's a brief look at some of those key figures.

The new Senate President is 73-year-old Dr Augustin Iyamuremye and he had been leading the country's Consultative Forum Political Veterans and experts and also led the Commission that helped the Parliament to amend the Constitution back in 2015.

He served as a Senator Between 2003 and 2011, the Minister of Agriculture from 1994 to 1998, the Minister of Information from '98 to 1999 and the Minister of Foreign Affairs from '99 to the year 2000. 

Dr Iyamuremye, an expert in veterinary medicine, has also served in other capacities in the Public Sector over the years.

He and his 2 Deputies in the Senate are among the 4 that were appointed by the President of the Republic.

Before becoming the Senate Vice President in charge of Legislation and Government Oversight, the Hon Esperance Nyirasafari was the Country's Minister Sports and Culture, a position she was appointed to in October last year.

She also served as the Minister of Gender and Family Promotion from October 2016 to October 2018. 

She has served in the Chamber of Deputies in Parliament as an MP and the Permanent Secretary in the Country's Ministry of Justice, being a law expert. 

At 59 years of age, the Honorable Dr Alvera Mukabaramba becomes the Senate Vice President in charge of Finance and Administration after serving as the country's Minister of State in charge of Social Affairs since 2011.

Between 2003 and 2011 the PPC Party President served as a Senator coming up from the Chamber of Deputies in Parliament.

She is an expert in Pediatrics and once campaigned for election to the office of the President of the Republic.

The new Senate President belongs to the PSD Party, while his deputies, belong to the PPC and RPF Inkotanyi Parties.
