Rwanda confirms seven coronavirus cases in total

The Ministry of Health has confirmed two additional coronavirus cases through positive tests today, bringing the confirmed total in Rwanda to seven.

One of the two cases is a Rwandan woman, 32, whose husband is a confirmed coronavirus patient with recent travel history in Fiji, USA and Qatar.

The seventh case is a German citizen, 61, who arrived in Rwanda on 13 March 2020 from Germany via Istanbul without symptoms. He developed a cough and went to a health facility on 15 March 2020, according to the Ministry of health.

“All confirmed coronavirus patients remain under treatment in stable condition, isolated from other patients,” the statement from the ministry of health reads in part, adding that the tracing of all contacts has been conducted for further management.

Authorities have called for heightened vigilance from all residents of Rwanda, and to continue observing the instructions of health authorities, particularly washing hands regularly, avoiding large gatherings, and limiting unnecessary movements.

The Ministry of Health has noted that face masks do not provide protection against coronavirus and should only be used by patients and those in direct contact with patients.

“The initial two week period of closure for schools and places of worship may be renewed based on circumstances,” the ministry said in a statement.
