Police, Adventist church join forces to promote road safety campaign

The national police of Rwanda headed to the Adventist church with a message of peace and promoting road safety amongst the faithful dubbed “ Gerayo Amahoro” 

Members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church say that there are certain behaviours of road users if nipped earlier on, then this could reduce road carnages.

During the sensitization program of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Dr. Byiringiro Esron head of the SDA reassured the National Police that the mobilization will go as far as possible through the channels that this denomination usually uses.

Byiringiro Esron, representative of the Seventh-day Adventist Church said; "There are pastors, there are other leaders within the Church who will pass this message on to those who have not arrived here. We have schools that we run, groups, we have a radio station, and we have songwriters that could get this message out to everyone,”

National Police spokesman CP John Bosco Kabera says these talks with leaders of various faiths and other categories of people are positive.

Kabera said; "The bottom line is that this awareness is working because people have adopted it and are doing it without the police intervening. And then, as we have shown, in January accidents generally decreased by 27%,"

According to statistics from the World Health Organization, WHO, road accidents claim the lives of one million and 300 thousand people each year and most occur in developing countries and 80% of these accidents are preventable. Police indicate that in Rwanda these road accidents kill one person a day.
