Mitsubishi introduces electric vehicles in Rwanda

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, a Japanese multinational automotive manufacturer, on Friday,  launched the Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) Outlander Mitsubishi Model 2019, all in efforts to promote green Rwanda, reducing toxic emissions in the atmosphere. 

This is a move that has been lauded by many saying, it is evolutional.

Greenhouse gases continue to worry about the world and different conventions have been established to protect the environment. industrialization and vehicle emissions continue to contribute to the deterioration of the ozone layer. experts say depletion of the ozone layer has health, agricultural and climatic changes that constantly affect human beings.

Environment regulatory body REMA, has been at the forefront to curb greenhouse emissions in the country, applying different incentives that recently included the promotion of electric mobility.

This time, electric vehicles have seen the light of day in Rwanda, to foster the agenda of a green country.

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV uses batteries that can fully charge after 4 hours, using electricity worth Rwf3000. When fully charged, it can run for 60Km. This vehicle also has the ability to use diesel or petrol all to charge the existing battery. its the first time this vehicle is being used in Africa.

Minister of infrastructure, Amb. Claver Gatete says these vehicles contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases.

In Rwanda, there are currently four similar vehicles, each selling at a cost of about 70million Rwandan francs. About 200 of them will be introduced, which will come to support other electric vehicles and motorcycles recently introduced on the local market.
